Association of Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Programs

Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Programs (MÜDEK), is a non-governmental organization operating for the purpose of contributing to the enhancement of quality of engineering education by means of the accreditation and evaluation of and providing information services for engineering education programs in various disciplines.

MÜDEK was initially established with the name of Engineering Evaluation Board as an independent, non-governmental platform in 2002 by the Engineering Deans Council (MDK), which is formed by the deans of faculties administering engineering education programs in Turkey and TRNC, in order to prepare and conduct a comprehensive program for the evaluation of engineering undergraduate programs run by these faculties and started the evaluation of engineering programs in 2003. MÜDEK became an association in 2007.

Except MÜDEK administrative staff, all individuals who participate in MÜDEK boards, committees, working groups, and accreditation evaluation teams work on voluntary basis without any salary.

MÜDEK is a member of European Network for Accreditation of Engineering Education (ENAEE) since November 17, 2006 and is a full signatory (member) of Washington Accord (WA) since June 15, 2011.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM

The following program educational objectives are career and professional accomplishments that our graduates are expected to achieve within a few years after graduation:

 

EO 1) They work as technical staff, experts or project managers, within the scope of the construction sector that provides services at national and international level in private companies, public institutions and organizations.

EO 2) By establishing a private company or engineering office that provides civil engineering services in person or in partnership, they provide project, commitment, audit and consultancy services at national and international level.

EO 3) An academic career in the relevant departments of universities at home and abroad.

EO 4) By using lifelong learning habits, they strengthen the technical, professional and social infrastructure they earn with professional certificates and training programs that are suitable for their career goals.

PROGRAM OUTCOMES

PO 1) Adequate knowledge in mathematics, science and engineering subjects pertaining to the
relevant discipline; ability to use theoretical and applied knowledgein these areas in
complex engineering problems.

PO 2) Ability to identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems; ability to select
and apply proper analysis and modeling methods for this purpose.

PO 3) Ability to design a complex system, process, device or product under realistic
constraints and conditions, in such a way as to meet the desired result; ability to apply
modern design methods for this purpose.

PO 4) Ability to devise, select, and use modern techniques and tools needed for analyzing and
solving complex problems encountered in engineering practice; ability to employ
information technologies effectively.

PO 5) Ability to design and conduct experiments, gather data, analyze and interpret results for
investigating complex engineering problems or discipline specific research questions.

PO 6) Ability to work efficiently in intra-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary teams; ability to
work individually.

PO 7) Ability to communicate effectively in Turkish, both orally and in writing; knowledge of
a minimum of one foreign language; ability to write effective reports and comprehend

Every graduating student will have “a multidisciplinary experience” during his or her undergraduate career. The use of a multidisciplinary integrated project provides one appealing pathway to achieve such experience.
In this course, real world multidisciplinary design experiences are used to prepare HKU graduates to enter today’s workforce.
Undergraduate students from different engineering departments may sign performance contracts (for some modest team task) in turn with faculty advisers. Such “vertical and horizontal integration” of student participants allows an early preview of design team organization, and first-hand experience in viewing both good and poor team behavior. The team may design both the product and the company, the former as a typical engineering product or process and the latter through development of a corporate business plan.

Course Content An Internship is a supervised pre-professional learning experience that allows students to apply their skills and knowledge in a professional setting. These experiences are designed to enhance the student’s preparedness for an intended career with a business, industry, or government agency.
Cooperative education is a partnership between academic institutions and the practical world of work. For students, it is a formal education and practical experience in business, industry or government agency, a blend of theory and application, new skills and knowledge, a competitive salary, and a validation of career choice. Cooperative education is different from internship. It lasts 14 weeks (one semester). A co-op student of alternate semester should work and study as a full-time study.

In this program; different assessment methods such as midterm, homework, exercise, project, application and final exam are applied. Assessment methods may include classical examination, multiple choice examination, homework, performance assessment and product assessment. In order to graduate from the program, the weighted grade point average must be at least 2.00. The grade of a course is determined as a result of the evaluation of the above elements and given as a letter. At least DD letter grade is required to be successful in a course.
