Department and Undergraduate Program

The Department of Civil Engineering began admitting students in the 2009–2010 academic year and graduated its first students in the 2014–2015 academic year. The undergraduate program of Hasan Kalyoncu University’s Civil Engineering Department is offered in the day-time format only, with no evening program. The duration of study is 4 years / 8 semesters and the language of instruction is 100% English.

Students who pass the English proficiency exam held before the academic year begins are entitled to register for the first year. Students who fail are placed in the preparatory class. The preparatory class lasts two semesters. Students who successfully complete the preparatory class may begin undergraduate studies.

In the undergraduate program, students must pass all courses they take and achieve a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.00 in order to graduate. ECTS credits have been defined for all courses, taking students’ workload into account. A graduate of the program must have completed a total of 240 ECTS credits. Students placed by ÖSYM or admitted to our department through horizontal or vertical transfers receive diplomas accredited by MÜDEK from Hasan Kalyoncu University upon graduation.

Curriculum, CO-OP and Laboratories

Course Curriculum

The department’s curriculum includes compulsory courses, technical elective courses, free elective courses, the graduation project and CO-OP (Internship).

Curriculum

CO-OP

Students who successfully complete all courses over the 7 semesters of the curriculum undergo the CO-OP program in the 8th semester. In the CO-OP system, our students work for one semester at companies that have agreements with our University, receiving practical training and closely engaging with the sector. The aim is to integrate theoretical education with working life. Students prepared for working life through CO-OP thereby minimize the time needed to learn on the job after graduation.

Internship / CO-OP

Laboratories

The department has its own Geotechnical, Structural and Materials Laboratories. These laboratories are suitable for undergraduate courses and graduate applications. There is also a computer laboratory that students can use within their courses.
